Background and importance of wood.

A hundredthousand square kilometres of forest.

Ukraine has over 100,000 km2 of forest. There is enough for everybody. For flora and fauna and those seeking rest and recreation; for regulation of the hydrological balance and protection from erosion; and for sustainable exploitation of the forest.

The two Sorbes production sites Nadvirna and Kostopil are located in the two most densely wooded regions – Ivano-Frankivske and Rivne.

The meeting of two ways of life.

The traditional trade and transport routes connecting Central Asia, the Transcaucasus region and Western Europe go right through Ukraine. As a result, the country has been influenced by both West and East.

A more active way of life is as much part of Ukraine as the more contemplative approach, the rational as well as the philosophical.

A rich formal language since earliest times.

Down the ages, Ukrainians have had a love of wood in all its diverse forms. The arts and crafts of wood-working are seen from the cradle to the place of worship, from single spoons to whole churches. Traditional wood-carving, which shows
both Western and Eastern influences, holds a special place: in western regions, highly geometrical motifs dominate; in eastern regions, floral patterns set the tone.

The diversity of the country is reflected in the variety of the Sorbes range of designs. They make well-designed furniture more widely available.

At the same time, construction with wood-based boards satisfies modern demands for lower maintenance and greater mobility.

Sorbes locations.

Kyiv – the hub and city office.

With a population of around three million, Kyiv is one of Europe’s ten biggest cities. Around 100 museums, 33 theatres and 140 libraries bear witness to its great cultural tradition. Kyiv’s parks and boulevards make it one of the world’s greenest cities.

As a political and administrative centre, Kyiv houses not only government institutions, but also the office of Sorbes Ukraine, with its key business line: Swisspan by Sorbes.

Kostopil – production centre.

Kostopil is in the middle of a region that is fertile and rich in natural resources. Among other things, it is renowned for
its basalt deposits. The densely wooded countryside surrounding the city already has a 60-year tradition of industrial wood processing behind it, with a powerful new impetus since the arrival of Sorbes.

Nadvirna – production centre.

Nadvirna lies in a hilly region, one of Ukraine’s favourite holiday areas and beloved of winter sports enthusiasts.
The crowning glories of the “man-made” aspects of the region’s landscape are masterpieces of wooden architecture, both secular and sacred. At the same time, there is sufficient space for continuous commercial forestry and sustainable wood processing.
